This article covers what Companies are in Craft.io, how they relate to submitters, how to add and manage them, and how to use company data to filter and prioritize feedback in the feedback table in the Workspace.

⚠️ Before you start: to create and manage companies in Craft.io, you will need Owner or Admin access in the Feedback Portal. Speak to your Account Owner or Customer Success Manager for more guidance.

What is a Company in Craft.io?

A Company represents the organization associated with a feedback submission. This can be a customer account, a partner, or an internal business unit.

Every feedback item can be linked to a Company. This link is what allows product teams to move beyond raw volume - instead of seeing "47 people asked for this," you can see which accounts, what segments, and what business value sits behind that demand.

Companies are a core entity in the Craft.io feedback model - they connect submitters to organizations, and organizations to strategic context.

πŸ’‘ If your team doesn't use the term "company," the label is fully configurable. Go to Feedback Portal Settings β†’ General Settings β†’ Portal Terminology to set your preferred singular and plural forms. Teams commonly use "Account," "Organization," or "Customer" instead.

Companies and submitters

A Company is the organization. A Submitter is the individual. When a feedback item is submitted, it can be associated with both entities - a specific person at a specific account. This relationship means you can:

  • See all feedback submitted by a given company

  • Understand how many users from the same account have raised the same request

  • Track which accounts are most active in submitting feedback

A single company can have multiple submitters. Each submitter is typically associated with one company.

Companies and portal visibility

The Companies section of the Feedback Portal is only available when your portal is set to Restricted. In a Public Access Portal, the Companies section is not available and all submitted feedback is visible to all portal users.

To switch your portal from public to restricted, Admin users in the Feedback Portal can:

  1. Open the Feedback Portal and navigate to Feedback Portal Settings β†’ General Settings

  2. Scroll down to Portal privacy and switch it from Public Access (Default) to Restricted Access

Once enabled, the Companies and Company Users sections will appear in Portal Settings for all Admin users. Submitters will only see feedback submitted by their own organization by default, but this can be changed.

πŸ’‘ Switching to a restricted portal does not delete existing feedback. Items submitted before the change remain accessible to your internal team.

How to create a company manually

Companies are created and managed within the Feedback Portal in Feedback Portal Settings. This is separate from the Craft.io Workspace where your backlog and roadmap live.

To add a company manually, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Feedback Portal and go to Settings (click the cog wheel in the top right hand corner)

  2. Select the Companies tab and click Company Details

  3. Click +Add Company

  4. Enter the company name, size and value

  5. Click Create Company

The company will now be available to associate with submitters and feedback items.

How to create a company via a Salesforce integration

Companies can also be synced automatically from Salesforce. The integration is configured directly in your Feedback Portal, under Feedback Portal Settings β†’ Integrations. Once connected, company records and their attributes sync from your CRM without manual entry.

See this article for setup instructions.

Company attributes and fields

Each company in Craft.io can carry structured data that helps your team understand who is behind a request and how much weight to give it. This includes built-in fields, custom fields you define, and invite settings for managing portal access at the account level.

Default fields

Each company in Craft.io has two built-in fields:

  1. Company Size - a numeric field for headcount or scale

  2. Value ($) - a numeric field representing the account's business value (e.g. ARR or contract value)

These fields are accessible within each company record and can be used to filter and sort feedback in the Feedback Table.

Custom company fields

Beyond the built-in fields, you can add custom fields to capture additional context relevant to your business. Supported field types include:

  • Text

  • Number

  • Single Selection

  • Multi Selection

  • Date

Examples of custom fields teams typically add: Customer Type, Region, Tier, Industry, or Strategic Priority.

To add a custom field:

  1. In Feedback Portal Settings, navigate to Companies β†’ Company Details,

  2. Create new or open an existing company record

  3. Click + Add Field in the Company Fields section, and select the field type.

πŸ’‘ If creating a Company manually, company fields can be added upon creation. These custom fields can also be synced with Salesforce if you're using the integration.

Company users and invite links

Each company record includes controls for managing who can access the portal on behalf of that account. There are two ways to grant access:

  1. By domain - enter a domain (e.g. domain.com) and all users under that domain will automatically have access to the portal under this company.

  2. By email - invite specific individuals by entering their email address and clicking Send Invite

An invite link is generated automatically for each company and can be copied and shared directly from the company record.

πŸ“ Regardless of whether your portal is public or restricted, all users must create an account and log in to submit feedback through the portal itself . Feedback submitted via Slack, Microsoft Teams, or the Public API works differently - those channels do not require the same portal authentication.

Using company data in the Feedback Table

Once companies are set up, they become a powerful filter and grouping dimension in the Feedback Table in your Craft.io Workspace.

From the Feedback Table, your team can:

  • Filter by company to see all feedback from a specific account

  • Group by company to compare demand across accounts side by side

  • Save views filtered to specific companies or tiers for ongoing monitoring

  • Open an individual feedback item to see company details and attributes

This allows product teams to move from "what do customers want?" to "what do our most strategic accounts need?"
