Key Takeaways
Card Customization: Tailor your Timeline cards to visualize key data at a glance, such as importance, status, assignee, or number and formula custom fields. You can also choose whether to display the progress bar on your Timeline cards.
Auto-Stack and Drag & Drop Improvements: Auto-stack now factors in title length when determining card size for improved readability.
New View Settings: The View Settings menu has been redesigned across all views for a clearer customization experience. In Timeline view, date range and resolution controllers have been relocated to the View Settings to make space for the Layout dialog.
Dateless Items: Identify items without dates in each lane and assign dates directly through the new Dates Table.
Card Customization
Product teams need to show precisely the information they intend to communicate and visualize. Until now, Timeline cards came with fixed dependencies and progress bar visualizations, giving you no control over what you could show or hide. With this release, you can easily customize your timeline cards to display exactly the information you need to show. You can replace the dependency field with one of various types of fields, such as:
Importance
Status
Assignee
Comments
Feedback
Number custom field
Formula custom field
To choose your preferred field, open the Layout dialog and select the field you'd like to display. Note that the fields are not only visual but also fully editable.
Further, you can disable the progress bar from the Layout dialog. When disabled, bars will display in a single persistent color, and hover progress percentages are hidden. This option is particularly useful when sharing timeline views with customers or stakeholders who don't need to see internal progress details.
Auto-Stack and Drag & Drop Improvements
Previously, Auto-stack mode merged items with the same sort values and non-overlapping dates to create a compact view that shows the full picture. However, items with long titles were often truncated, making them difficult to read and edit. With this update, Auto-stack now dynamically adjusts spacing based on title length and zoom level, ensuring items remain readable and well-organized. If a title extends beyond the item’s date range, the system automatically prevents overlap. Otherwise, stacking continues based on item dates.
We've also added more flexibility to the timeline view. When auto-stacking and sorting by hierarchy, you can now manually drag and drop items within the same hierarchy value to fine-tune their positioning on the timeline.
To further enhance the timeline experience, you can now drag and drop items directly from the progress bar. Additionally, you can navigate within the timeline by clicking and dragging the entire view with your mouse.
New View Settings
To address the need for a more intuitive and modern user interface, we've implemented a comprehensive overhaul of the View Settings across all views, including table, kanban, swimlanes, timeline, capacity planning, and the progress dashboard. The new UI includes a clear structure for each setting, including an icon, title, and toggle or selector. Likewise, progress calculation settings are now visible by default, with tooltips to help you understand each option. To access the View Settings, simply navigate to any view and look for the View Settings controller, where you’ll find all the new options and configurations.
For Timeline users, date range and resolution controls have been relocated to View Settings, making space for the new Layout dialog and providing a cleaner overall interface.
Dateless items
Product managers need visibility into what's missing. When planning your roadmap on the timeline, it's essential to see the complete picture, including items without assigned dates. Now, when you hover over any lane, an indicator appears on the lane header showing the number of dateless items. This count reflects all missing items in that lane based on your current timeline filters. Note that the indicators are hidden when sharing or presenting your timeline.
From the indicator, you can click "Add dates to items" to open a temporary Dates Table view. This table presents all dateless items filtered to the relevant lane, allowing you to easily insert dates. Once you've added the necessary date information, click the arrow behind the "Dates Table" title to return to your timeline view.
