Halfway through a quarter, the planning question changes. It stops being what the team committed to and becomes what is still open, and whether it fits the time that is left. Capacity Planning's three modes compare the full effort of every item against the full capacity of the timeframe, in week ten exactly as on day one. That describes the original plan, not where the quarter currently stands.

With this update, a fourth mode compares remaining effort against remaining capacity, proportional to the time left. Remaining effort is each item's capacity value multiplied by the share not yet done, so an epic estimated at 10 points and 80% complete contributes 2. Remaining capacity is the total capacity multiplied by the share of the timeframe still ahead. A Q3'26 column running July 1st to September 30th with a capacity of 60 leaves 40 on August 1st, set against the work genuinely still open rather than against everything the quarter was estimated at.

Each capacity cell shows that item's remaining effort, read-only and gray, and the calculation covers only the items visible in the view. A timeframe with no start or end date has no share of time to calculate from, so its remaining capacity reads N/A.

To use it, open the settings of any Capacity Planning view and select Remaining Effort & Capacity under Capacity planning mode. Like the other modes, it is saved with the view.
