Roadmaps in Craft.io help you visualize what you are working on and what comes next. Most teams start with a roadmap inside a Workspace, using one of the default roadmap views. From there, you can customize the view or use Guru templates to shape a roadmap that fits your planning style.
What is a roadmap in Craft.io?
In Craft.io, a roadmap is not a static document.
It shows real items such as Epics or Features and updates automatically as plans change. This means your roadmap always reflects the current state of your work, without needing to rebuild slides or documents.
Roadmaps are usually created inside a Workspace, where product work is planned and managed day to day.
Large product organizations with multiple product areas may wish to aggregate roadmaps from multiple Workspaces. This is done via the Craft.io Portfolio, which is part of the Enterprise license subscription.
Where to start with roadmapping
When you open or join a Workspace, you do not need to create everything from scratch. Craft.io includes default roadmap views that are designed to help you get value quickly, especially when you are building your first roadmap.
From there, you can decide whether to:
Use a default view as-is
Customize a view
Create a roadmap using a Guru template
Using the default roadmap views
Default roadmap views are available as soon as a Workspace is created, and will appear in the left-hand workflow navigation. These give you a sensible starting point and can be adjusted at any time.
Default Swimlanes Roadmap
The default Swimlanes Roadmap focuses on sequencing and direction, making it ideal for high-level planning. It is commonly used for Now, Next, Later or quarterly planning, especially when exact dates are not yet defined.
By default, this view shows:
Epics grouped by Product across the top of the screen
Epics categorized by Quarter in the left-hand swimlanes
โ
You can

Default Swimlanes Roadmap
The default Swimlanes Roadmap is designed to support high-level planning and communication.
By default, this view:
Groups work by quarter across the horizontal axis
Organizes items by product in swimlanes
Displays higher-level items such as Epics or Features
This view is well suited for early planning conversations, quarterly reviews, and Now, Next, Later style discussions. It provides a clear sense of sequencing without focusing on exact dates.
You can adjust the grouping, timeframe, and card layout to better reflect how your team plans and communicates.
Create a roadmap from scratch
When you enter Craft.io, start by navigating to the Workspace where you want your roadmap to live. This is where your backlog items already exist, such as Epics and Features.
