New navigation, Toolbar & User Settings
Product management is all about process. It is not limited to only writing specs or to building a roadmap but is a holistic process involving many steps. This includes the discovery of problems and needs, finding the right solutions, prioritizing the right things, planning the next deliverable cycles, and getting a macro look of the product strategy, roadmap, and progress. Craft.io provides a solution to all the above, but the app’s navigation had room to improve.
Today we are releasing a fresh new look for Craft.io’s navigation, designed to make navigating between the different views easier and to help organize and surface powerful features so that using them becomes more intuitive.
Left navigation panel
The main update to Craft.io’s navigation is experienced in the app’s left navigation panel. We have surfaced all the views to be accessible within one single click and have divided it into three clear sections.
Strategy: The top section contains all the strategic views, led by the roadmap view. These strategy views represent a top-level look of the product goals and progress, useful when shared with the team, senior stakeholders, and across the organization.
Define/Plan/Discover: This middle section contains the views typically used in a product manager’s day-to-day life. In the Define section, two useful views allow PMs to define the specification of features and to organize the data in their desired hierarchy tree. The Spec Editor is where you can see your entire workspace hierarchy as well as add new Sections and Features, and write detailed specs in a doc-like format. Story Mapping is great for the initial ideation and specification of a new Product and gives you a sticky note type environment to quickly add and view new areas of your product. In the Plan section, you can plan and prioritize your next release/sprint cycles with powerful table, kanban, and timeline views. Finally, the Discover section allows you to keep track of what matters to your users with the feedback portal view.
Saved Views: The final section contains the saved views - these are personal views that can each be customized and tailored to the specific needs of each user to help you work more efficiently.
At the bottom of the left-hand panel, we have placed several useful tools such as Support, Search, Recent Activity & Notes (formerly known as Braindump). We have also added a Settings button, which contains several settings items that were previously found under the User Settings menu.
User Settings have now moved to the upper top-right part of the screen, accessible by hovering over your user icon. The new User Settings contain only user related items such as the personal profile and account settings. Note that the Workspace related settings can now be found in the bottom toolbar of the left-hand navigation (see above).
We hope you enjoy using the new streamlined navigation – jump into Craft.io and try out the new features for yourself and don't forget to give us your feedback and thoughts in the official Craft.io Feedback Portal.
